Born in St. John's, NL Abra (BMus, MMus) has enjoyed a varied and eclectic career performing, teaching and supporting the arts.
As a performer, Abra has produced her own shows focusing on the music of Nina Simone, Edith Piaf, Gladys Knight, as well as the genres of Jazz, Musical Theatre and Cabaret. She has worked with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (NSO), Opera on the Avalon, The Majestic Theatre, Best Kind Productions, Atlantic Light Theatre, Theatre St. John's and many others.
As a teacher, Abra focuses on a person-first approach where the student is more important than the product. Her belief is that this fosters a more independent, confident, and a realistic relationship with music making and performance. She has a deep foundation and education in Vocal Pedagogy, and will be pursuing a Masters in Happiness Studies which will provide more nuance and perspective to her teaching.
She is a Voice and Piano teacher at Intervals Music Studio, and is the curriculum creator and teacher of the Do Re Mi & You beginner group vocal class, also at Intervals.
As a choral professional, Abra is the Artistic Director and General Manager of the Coastal Sounds Choir Association, and a founding member of Projekt Chamber Voices, directed by Amy Henderson.
As a clinician, Abra aims to break down barriers and infuse joy and curiosity into learning vocal technique and theory skills.
